Matty Mention

Matthew was mentioned in a review of Courteney Cox’s new movie “November”, ‘here’s the excerpt:

Most of the problem lies with Cox’s portrayal of Sophie. In some ways hers is a masterful performance, never embarrassing or amateurish, yet finding a way to let her fish-eyed gaze greedily slurp up all life that crosses it. You can tell when she’s really acting because you can almost hear her thinking, “Need to look sad … but not too sad.” Watch how she completely fails to register with Nick Offerman’s performance as the cop investigating the murder. Offerman belies his stereotypical ‘bulldog in a Haggar sports jacket’ look with such confused warmth and blue-collar gentleness that I wanted to entreat him to take off that holster so I could give him a body massage (and I get uncomfortable hugging my father). That’s how much vulnerability he was throwing out there, yet Cox can’t manage to summon a sliver of rapport with him. To be fair to Cox, though, once you’ve acted with Matthew Perry you’ve gotta be spoiled for pretty much any other actor. Chandler is just that good.

ESPY bits

This year’s ESPY Awards won’t have Jamie Foxx, but they will have a friendly face.

Actor Matthew Perry, former star of NBC’s mega-hit “Friends,” serves as host of the sports awards show for the first time. The 13th annual ESPY Awards take place tonight in Hollywood.

Foxx will be a difficult act to follow. In addition to his acting acumen, he has a background in stand-up comedy and music. One of his regular bits the past two years was serenading/embarrassing tennis star Serena Williams.

“As for topping Jamie Foxx, I’m not quite sure I’ll be able to do that,” Perry said during a conference call last week. “But I hope I’ll be able to do a good job and, as a result, next year win the Best Actor Academy Award.”

Foxx won his first Oscar this year for “Ray.”

Perry has had success in sports, earning the No.17 national ranking in Canada as a junior tennis player. When did he realize he wouldn’t make it as a tennis pro?

“Early this morning,” Perry said jokingly.

Sharapova found a new friend in tennis fan and ESPY host Matthew Perry, who held her drink for her while she took a call on her celly.

Matthew reportedly suffered minor burns to his forehead when a pyrotechnic stunt went wrong as he was preparing to host sports awards the ESPYS in Hollywood.

He was struck by a flaming object that fell from the ceiling at the Kodak Theatre. Matthew refused to let the incident phase him and he continued rehearsals for the show and later enjoyed a pre-show party at the Playboy Mansion.
